There are 3 big reasons why I wanted to visit Khao Takiab hill, or Monkey Mountain, which is located about 6 km. outside of Hua Hin beachtown:
- Sweeping views over Hua Hin beach can be seen from the top of the hill.
- Wat Khao Takiab is perched on the peak, a temple that supposedly contains one of Buddha’s teeth (although only those who pray very hard can see it).
- There is a large population of wild macaque monkeys living in the area surrounding the temple.
This was the first time I had seen monkeys roaming freely, and I found them to be surprisingly aggressive, impudently funny, and often poignantly human. I couldn’t choose just one photo to feature, but these are a few of my favourites.

I'm not a fan of monkeys but we plan on hiking this hill this morning. I'm interested to see the view and the Buddha on the hill. Here's hoping the monkeys leave us alone!!
My recent post Monday Moment: Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo
What a coincidence! I hope you guys can enjoy it – the monkeys can get a little crazy, but if you don't bring any food, you should be ok. I recommend checking out Khao Takiab beach too if you haven't already, it's much nicer than the main Hua Hin beach.
