We ended up in Saint-Maixent-L’Ecole, which is nestled in the Poitou-Charentes region of France, entirely by chance. It would never be called spectacular, but with most of the town’s buildings dating between the 15th-19th centuries, a lively local market on Saturday mornings, and a surprisingly beautiful abbey, Saint-Maixent-L’Ecole was certainly one of the prettiest little French towns I’ve ever visited.
