Sunday Snapshot: Hida-Takayama Illumination

hida-takayama light display lantern illumination

Holiday season illuminations are quite popular in Japan. While many cities go for the full-on LED display, Hida-Takayama played up its old-world feeling by decorating all of its gorgeous Edo-period buildings with paper lanterns. The soft lighting, combined with the heavy snowfall, created a pretty magical effect.

Which cities do you love to see decked out for the holidays?
